In the spirit of our founding mama’s Italian heritage and culture, the atmosphere of Mama Farm is inspired by the Italian piazza

Mama Farm is a 28-acre farm in Brookhaven, New York, protected by a conservation easement. Overseen by executive director, Elettra Wiedemann, and founded in 2013 by actress, Isabella Rossellini, Mama Farm aims to foster the next generation of environmental stewards. We do this through education and preservation of biodiversity which come to life through our member CSA (community supported agriculture), and one-of-a-kind programming such as avant-garde films, theater, workshops and children’s activities.

In the spirit of Isabella’s Italian heritage, Mama Farm is designed to be like an Italian piazza, a vibrant place for us and our members to share knowledge and inspire one another toward the common goal of preservation and rejuvenation of mother earth.

We invite our members and guests to meet each other, converse, walk around the beautiful woodlands and explore our animal sanctuary, which includes heritage breed chickens and turkeys, sheep, goats, quail, ducks and more.

None of our animals are slaughtered, but we do use their products, such as eggs and honey, in our CSA shares. The crops grown on our land come from heirloom seeds, and are cultivated using organic and regenerative agriculture techniques by Farmer Patty Gentry. We do not use any kind of pesticides, herbicides, insecticides or environmentally harmful fertilizers anywhere on our farm.

Our goal is for Mama Farm to be the piazza for our community, where knowledge and inspiration can be shared, with a common goal of preserving and celebrating the heritage of our environment and Mother Nature, the Mama on whom we all depend.
