MAMA IS BACK!

MAMA IS BACK!

Happy summer, Mama Farm members! We are so delighted to have you with us! There's lots going on this season – let's dive in!

Farm News: Mama Makes A Stand

OK that sounds dramatic, but it’s not! Mama Farm has a new CSA stand location at the Mama Farm’s magical teepee, which is easily accessible via the turkey gate entrance of the farm. Our new stand location will allow us to manage the flow of our growing membership more easily, as well as set up an area for…

Crafts, Coffee, Bevies & Beignets

This summer, at our new teepee CSA stand, we'll have a crafts table run by everyone’s favorite artist, Freya Wiedemann. Those that were with us last summer will recall that Freya (who is Elettra’s sister) took over the CSA stand while Elettra was on maternity leave. To enhance the CSA offerings, Freya created wonderful beaded bracelets, pressed flower art and much more – all of which were a huge hit!

This year, Freya will run a crafting table at Mama's CSA teepee pick up on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings to teach members how to make these creations and other delights including fresh flower crowns, lanyards and more.

Additionally, our Mama Farm stand will have iced Colombe coffees and award winning Athletica Beer to keep members cool in the hot months.

Finally, on Saturday mornings, we’re so happy to have fresh, hot beignets for sale from chef Cheryl Griggs of Chara’s Kitchen. Cheryl’s cooking is the ultimate #IYKYK Bellport secret and we're so excited to be partnering with her this year on beignets and more! Watch for our profile on Cheryl in July’s issue of our Mama Farm newsletter.

Mama Says, “Introduce Yourself”

Meet The New Faces of Mama Farm!

Anthony Luscia -

Mama’s Manager

Mama Farm is so grateful to have Anthony Luscia with us as our new farm and B&B manager. Whether he is managing the B&B, putting beautiful touches on decor for a wedding, or in the fields getting dirty and collecting eggs – Anthony helps Mama to do it all! Anthony comes to Mama Farm from Martha Stewart & Martha Stewart Weddings, where he served as the special project, home and fashion editor for many years.

Anthony and his husband, Rusty, moved to Bellport from Manhattan several years ago and fell in love with the local community and surrounding nature. He has also founded Bellport Gardens, a home and gardening brand. “My favorite thing about Mama Farm is that it is a laboratory for us to experiment in many different areas. I am excited about working with our wonderful community and vendors to execute a fantastic season of events and regenerative experiences.”

Cheryl Drosin -

Groundskeeper

Cheryl is Mama Farm’s new groundskeeper and we’re thrilled to have her! Cheryl is an experienced horticulturist with a background in organic gardening, landscape design and floral design. Following in her late grandfather's footsteps, she pursued her Horticulture degree at Farmingdale State College. Before joining the team at Mama Farm, Cheryl was managing a small gardening company in Bellport.

In addition to being a bona fide chicken, sheep and goat whisperer (pure joy is watching our Mama Farm animals lovingly flock to Cheryl when they see her!), she also maintains an aesthetically-pleasing and functional space throughout the Mama Farm property and cares for all the gardens.

Luke Kerr -

Farm Hand

Luke will be running the Mama Farm stand at the teepee this summer and helping to run our weddings, events and other activations. Luke is a senior Environmental Design student at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. He is interested in urban planning, especially accessibility planning as it relates to dementia-friendly communities. At OU, Luke works at the South Central Climate Adaptation Science Center and leads an organization called Green Week.

In addition to working on Mama Farm this summer, Luke will be working with our pals over at CEED. He loves reading, meditating, biking, and spending time with his cat, Kylo.

Dinner by Chef Fran Derby will include basil blossom and strawberry elixir, ancient grains and snap pea salad with pistachio gremolata topped with slow roasted pork shoulder or grilled eggplant. Liz Sorts Your Biz | Mama Farm’s Advice Column:

Among our many talented and wonderful CSA members, we have a certain admiration for the all-knowing “Liz” (pseudonym). Liz is revered by their friends for doling the absolute best advice on literally anything from personal issues to finance to ethics and beyond. Members can submit their most pressing questions via our small intake box at the CSA pick up.

Dear Liz Sorts Your Biz,

I really don’t like my dad’s girlfriend’s kids. They are really boring and small minded. Do I have to pretend to my dad that I do?Z

– Oscar for Best (or Worst) Actor

Dear Oscar,

You don't have to live in tinsel town to win an Academy award. This is a very easy task, your acting job for the day is to play Doris Day or Rock Hudson. Your first task is to go to wardrobe and treat yourself to a new outfit. Your second task is rehearsal – give yourself a pep talk. And last is to smile and act away. Never give them a reason to complain about you. Entertainment can be rewarding so have some fun with it. This is a very simple task to make your Dad proud of you. Always remember there's always a glass of wine at the end of the day.

- And the winner is, Liz
